Ayah Explorer helps families learn words from the Quran. We collect as little information as we can, we never sell it, and we never use it for advertising.

Who we are

Ayah Explorer (ayahexplorer.com) is responsible for the personal information described here.

Questions or requests: hello@ayahexplorer.com, or use our contact form.

A note for children

We only know your first name (or a nickname), your age range, the buddy you picked, and how you're doing in the games. We never ask for your address, your school, photos or your email. There are no adverts. If anything worries you, talk to a grown-up in your family.

What we collect

Grown-ups who set up a family

  • Your email address, used to send sign-in links, invitations and important account messages.

Each family member (children and grown-ups)

  • First name or nickname
  • Age range (for example "5–7" or "30–44"); we never ask for a date of birth
  • The buddy (picture) they chose
  • Learning progress: words learned, answers in the games and how long they take, stars, medals, certificates, and when they played

The family

  • The family name you choose, a grown-ups PIN (stored securely), a family code for adding devices, and a list of devices signed in to the family

Messages you send us

  • Your name, email and message, used only to reply to you

Visiting the website

  • Our hosting provider keeps short-term technical logs (such as IP address and browser type) to keep the service running and secure.

Who can see your information

  • Your family's grown-ups can see every family member's progress and the family leaderboard, in the grown-ups' area behind the family PIN.
  • Ayah Explorer's administrator can see account and progress information to provide support and keep the service working.
  • Nothing is public. Leaderboards are only shared within your own family.

Devices

A device joins your family with a sign-in link, a family code or a QR code. The game then remembers your family on that device, so children can just tap their name to play. Grown-ups can see every signed-in device, remove any of them, and make a new family code at any time, which stops the old one working.

Cookies and tracking

The game stores on your device which family it belongs to, so nobody has to sign in each time. That is needed for the game to work. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, and we don't use analytics.

Why we use your information (legal bases)

What we doLegal basis
Provide the service: accounts, sign-in links, saving progressTo fulfil our agreement with you (contract)
Reply to messages, keep the service secure, and improve lessons using overall patterns, such as which words people find hardestOur legitimate interests

We never sell personal information, use it for advertising, or build marketing profiles.

Who helps us

  • Railway hosts our website, game and database.
  • Resend delivers our emails (sign-in links, invitations, account emails and contact-form messages).

We share information with anyone else only if the law requires it.

Where your information is stored

Our website, game and database are hosted by Railway in the EU (Amsterdam, Netherlands). Emails are sent by Resend from its EU service (Ireland). Railway and Resend are US-based companies, so some information may be accessed from the US, for example for support. Where that happens, transfers are protected by the safeguards UK data protection law requires, such as approved contract terms.

How long we keep it

  • Family accounts and progress are kept while the family uses Ayah Explorer. If a family hasn't played for 2 years, we'll email the grown-ups and then delete the account.
  • Grown-ups can delete a family member, or the whole family, at any time in the grown-ups' area, or by emailing us.
  • Deleted information is removed from our live systems straight away. We do not keep separate backups.
  • Contact messages are kept for up to 12 months after we reply, then deleted.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask to see, correct or delete your information, ask us to limit how we use it, ask for a copy in a portable format, and object to certain uses. Grown-ups can make these requests for the children in their family.

Email hello@ayahexplorer.com and we'll reply within one month. If you're unhappy with how we handle your information, please tell us first. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).

Keeping it safe

All connections are encrypted, access to the database is restricted, and we collect only what the game needs. Grown-ups sign in with emailed links, so there are no passwords to steal, and the grown-ups' area is protected by a family PIN.

Changes

If we change this notice, we'll update the date at the top. For important changes, we'll email family grown-ups before they take effect.
